PSBC Holds August Meeting

24 August 2016

Public Safety Broadband Commission members met August 24 at the Department of Public Safety headquarters in Waterbury. FirstNet is projecting that the results of a national RFP to select a private partner to buildout the network will be announced in November. In preparation for that announcement and the resulting release of state rollout plans, the PSBC was briefed on several topics. The meeting minutes are posted on this website.

Corey Chase of the Department of Public Service and Barb Neal of the E-911 Board, briefed the PSBC on the challenges of offering VoLTE (Voice Over Long-Term Evolution) and complying with E-911 requirements. Robert White of the Agency of Transportation updated the PSBC on the current status of the fiber optics cable network in Vermont. Following the briefings, the PSBC discussed the issues raised in the regional FirstNet Consultation Task Force Team meeting in June. FirstNet is seeking input from first responders on network quality and priority and network preemption protocols during widespread emergency situations.

The next meeting of the PSBC is scheduled for December 7.

The FirstNet project is housed within the Radio Technology Services unit of the Department of Public Safety.
