St Johnsbury & Milton First Responders Briefed on FirstNet

09 September 2016

The Vermont outreach team traveled to St. Johnsbury and Milton this week to brief first responders on the development of the FirstNet Public Safety Broadband network. Fire service, EMS and dispatch personnel attended the St. Johnsbury area fire chiefs meeting on September 7. The group was hopeful that a secure broadband network would improve communication in their area. Of particular need was the ability to use software that would assist in dispatching and tracking the location of personnel responding to an emergency call.

On September 8, law enforcement officers with the Milton Police Department gathered for a FirstNet briefing. As in many areas of Vermont, the officers reported spotty cell phone coverage in locations within their service area. Officers were interested in using a broadband network to improve communications, particularly at incident scenes where multiple officers are responding to a call.

We thank both groups for inviting us to brief their personnel on FirstNet.

The FirstNet project is housed within the Radio Technology Services unit of the Department of Public Safety.
